• Katy Perry in Blender Magazine

I hate that I can’t hate Katy Perry. She makes music that’s straight basura, intentionally exploited bi-curiosity (and the rest of the non-hetero community) for airplay, and looks eerily similar to the far more talented, but criminally less celebrated, Zooey Deschanel (a personal favorite of mine).

But I’m an unabashed sucker for a pinup girl, and I can’t deny that she’s taken 50s glamour and infused it with everyday (and highly marketable) sex appeal. She rarely ever looks like she’s in costume – and that’s no mean feat, considering that she’s probably maintained by about a zillion different stylists.

She’s a doe-eyed classic beauty, and it’s why you notice her before you notice what she’s wearing.

    More pictures after the jump.

Even for me, here on the High & Mighty Throne of the Overtly Pretentious, it’s hard to deny anything that gushes this sort of yesteryear sex appeal. Please Katy, make better music. Then I can stop trying to hate you.
