There Will Be Clothes: Dubai Fashion Week
Dubai is like the spoiled child of really strict billionaire oil parents. It has all the treats and amenities of a technological heaven, and all the laws, restrictions and punishments that make you want to move out once you hit 18. Famous for its recreational innovations, large immigrant workforce, and lots of other things, my mom calls the city the millennial version of Disneyland (but without the “Happiest Place on Earth” part, I suppose)- I call it Cloud City in a training bra.

Despite the international economy, it’s still growing. And this week, it [was] Dubai’s Spring/Summer 2009 Fashion Week- from the 5th through today.

“Westernizing” the abaya:

“It was phenomenal. Each piece of the collection merged the West with the East,” said Maysea Ridha. “It’s an innovative look to the abaya where you have funky, stylish, classy, cutting-edge pieces. It’s all about the movement and the cut rather than just the bead work.”

And for something I would wear,
I like this mixed-pattern babydoll dress from Charu Parashar:
