Spring Collection Preview @ Saks SF | 3.19.09
Last night at the Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s store, we were invited to a Spring Collection preview party by Saks and Urban Daddy, hosted by none other than Eric Jennings, Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Fashion Director. It was a homecoming of sorts, since Mr. Jennings is originally from Walnut Creek here in the Bay Area.
Stay tuned for our post next Monday, where we’ll have our exclusive interview (!!!) with Mr. Jennings. But for right now, click after the jump for more pictures of the men’s spring preview.
Cas sampling the new John Varvatos men’s fragrance. The gentleman informed us more than once of the fragrance’s blood orange scent. I liked it a lot.
Why yes, yes we do.
The first things you noticed upon leaving the elevators are models on small podiums throughout the store. You know that scene in The 40 Year Old Virgin where they talk about “putting the p***y on a pedestal”? This is like the opposite of that. Literally.
Some of the Junya Watanabe / Comme des Garcon. I definitely WANT IT.
I’m pretty sure I can get a satin jacket like this in Chinatown for $12.
Eric Jennings! Who is, incidentally, wearing slim-cut cargo-style pants. I have a pair, and Cas makes fun of me for wearing them. Take that, Cas.
Suits.
One of the preview’s primary themes was “deconstructing the blazer”, where a lighter, less rigid blazer is paired with more casual digs.
Fashionistas can say whatever they want – but as far as I’m concerned, Angus Young invented this look.
I forgot the name of this look, but it’s awesome. Bright blue (faux?) patent with a vaguely African-tribal print shirt.
The recession affects us all. Even Rob Lowe here has to take extra modeling gigs on the side.
This has nothing to do with this picture in particular, but during the presentation, there were a TON of people who refused to keep their voices down and were just downright rude. I expect better from San Francisco’s supposed bourgeois.
Cas with…this guy. I know he runs a modeling agency, but his name escapes me. We’ve definitely run into him a number of times before though.
In the grey on the left is our girl Franchesca. Even though she was SUPER busy with all of the arrangements for the night, she went out of her way to schedule our interview with Mr. Jennings and help us out last night. Franchesca, if you’re reading this, thank you for being a sweetheart. We promise to catch up with you more when we’re all not so worried about business and such.
Another theme – “dressing up the sneaker”. These are patent leather Dolce & Gabbanas that, surprisingly, don’t look out of place on the look at all. I’ve seen a hi-top version that are absolutely BANANAS though. Do want.
Desert-colored desert boots. Super clean.
Mr. Eric Jennings. Very nice guy. Again, stay tuned on Monday for our interview with him.
Overall, some fairly good ensembles in the spring collection. Lots of stuff for the ordinary guy who just wants to look good and feel comfortable in the warmer spring climates, and a good selection of looks for men who want to push the envelope. Be sure to swing by your local Saks soon and peep it for yourself.
