Offensive rap and midgets sell a LOT of burgers.
Which do you think offends your sensibilities more? Using washed up rappers and hip hop that objectifies womens’ bodily assets TO SELL HAPPY MEALS WITH SPONGEBOB TOYS?!
Or…
…Using little people dressed as cowboys (also known scientifically as dwarves) on tiny ponies to sell miniature hamburgers, complete with helium-reverb sound effect on the chorus?
Personally, I’m not offended by either. It’s good to know that we Americans can put aside our petty differences and unite happily on common ground by celebrating the important things, the things that warm our hearts: fast-food, midgets, and rap. Political correctness be damned, we like our burgers, and we will go out of our way to find new ways to sell them, including teaching kids that they can get Nickelodeon toys with a bootylicious meal and exploiting little people to sell mini burgers.
I have no doubt in my mind that someone, somewhere, will find these commercials offensive and then dial the ACLU or the Barack Obama “Help My Ass Out” hotline and get them banned. Honestly, anytime I see these commercials, a huge grin crawls across my face because they’re so ridiculously un-P.C. So enjoy these gems while you can, because I have a feeling they won’t be around for long.

DETROIT MUSIC | 931 WDRQ added these pithy words on Apr 22 09 at 2:39 am[...] I swear this will be the last post on Asher Roth.* But if you haven’t heard already, the rapper just sold more than $18,000 in sales yesterday off of the release of his new album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. I remember listening to Asher Roth’s mixtape last year and thinking that there was no way that they would put this kid on the radio. He’s too good. But after a lot of blog/magazine coverage and a single called “I Love College,” he proved me wrong and I’m glad that he did because talent is not usually rewarded in the music industry anymore (See Burger King Ad.) Tough Career Choice for Models | 931 WDRQ added these pithy words on Oct 03 09 at 6:18 pmIt took me about three passive viewings of the Burger King commercial to realize that the advertisement was aimed towards selling toys + meat to children. I loved it.JenniI don’t get to see the Jack-in-the-Box commercials in Chicago, but it was definitely excellent as well. I think this years mini-horse is the mini-cow. I want one.
Is it wrong to like the Jack commercial?casanovaruffin
No, it’s very very right to like both of these commercials. I’m just saying that eventually, someone’s gonna get butthurt and sue and force these lovely burger conglomerates to find more politically correct ways to sell meat on buns.Alexander Worthington iii
To sue these ‘lovely’ burger conglomerates would be most unfair. I’m pretty sure that dwarves who chose to dress as cowboys with a Shetland Pony as chosen mode of transport is pretty much setting him/herself up to become an object of comedy genius.Gail
Then it’s agreed, we support this in solidarity.casanovaruffin
the burger king.. king creeps me out every time.issa
“I like Square Butts that I cannot lie!” Classic.casanovaruffin
i’m not offended so much at the first one, just kind of amused at how far sir mix-a-lot’s star has truly fallen. oh, and speaking of truly new ways to sell burgers, there was a huge debate on one of my email lists recently over the ethical implications of this ‘hamburger virgin’ campaign i think burger king did where they went to remote corners of the earth and got native villagers to do a hamburger taste test.. pretty ridiculous.roxanne
@Roxanne, have you seen the SNL skit parodying Whopper Virgins? Hilarious.casanovaruffin@emma Are you vegetarian?
somewhere mcdonald’s is planning this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_79fnYlU7F0ici
I have to say I took offense to both commercials, but in particular to the creepy old king measuring the squared-off buns of young girls to sell meals to kids. I can’t imagine the PR company that developed that idea thinks moms would be motivated to buy those meals based on the commecial.Cathy
@Cathy, I can understand where you’re coming from. They might have crossed a line with Spongebob.casanovaruffin
The logical, educated, sensible side of me agrees with Cathy. But the loudmouthed, crass, First Amendment-loving side of me (which is me most of the time) thinks that ad executives should find more new ways to offend us and sell us unhealthy things at the same time. Like having Barack Obama endorse Marlboros or something.Alexander Worthington iii
As a parent I suppose I should be offended by the BK commercial, but I think it’s hilarious — especially since I grew up listening to “Big Butts” and my kids love the song too.MichelleBottom line, commercials encourage kids to want things no matter the context. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it and teach your kids the real facts about commercials and marketing

@AWiii . Wow! haha, that would really be the end of the US if that ever happened with Obama. But the thought really does tickle my tummy.Jenni Ferali
