Screen Worlds
There is an exhibit going on at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) called “Screen Worlds.” The exhibit is a comprehensive history of film, television, and the digital culture. It covered everything from the origins of moving pictures, to the advent of television and movies, and ending with the age of the internet. Also included were the industries of animation and video games.
These are a couple of old school Atari controllers. They also had NES and Nintendo 64 on display, but that exhibit made me feel old.
The exhibit also displayed Australia’s contributions to the film industry by highlighting the country’s most accomplished artists. This is a replica of the Mad Max Interceptor Car from the 1979 film by George Miller, who attempted to capture Australia’s obsession with car culture.
In addition to being a highly respected actress, Cate Blanchett has dedicated a good part of her career to Australian movies and films. Ms. Blanchett donated these ears to the exhibit, which were part of her costume in her role on The Lord of the Rings.
All in all, it was a satisfying summary of how film has become what it is today.
