The Lost Countdown – What They Died For
Lets sit around a campfire and let me tell you what it is all about. That is what the second to last episode of Lost had come to. But when you get to the end of a show that has constantly sprawled out its mythology, making a “lets sit down and explain everything” scene is almost a necessity. Lost is a show that didn’t want to let you know the shape of the artifact that you are excavating. Each brush strokes reveals a completely new detail to the object that somehow fits into it but still leaves you befuddled as to what the object actually is.
So what did we learn this week? Jack has decided to step into Jacob’s shoes as the new protector of the Island. No surprise? Yes me neither. We have known since that amazing pilot episode that Jack is going to the top dog of the show. Jack has always known to take control of a situation.
What else is going on? Not-Locke has found Ben and in what has to be the worlds fastest negation, Ben reveals where he was hiding Widmore and his assistant Zoe in exchange for Not-Locke giving Ben the Island. Kind of surprising. Just when we thought Ben had maybe turned a corner for the better, the promise of getting recognition and the reward from someone powerful (the anti-thesis to Jacob who he use to long to meet) was too great to pass up.
What has been finally been reveled is how important Desmond is. On the Island, Widmore brought Desmond as a failsafe in case he couldn’t stop Not-Locke. Apparently, if Not-Locke can’t leave the Island, he is just gonna destroy the mother fucker. In the Alter-Lost, Desmond is on a mission. After beating the crap out of Alter-Ben, he turns himself into the police. His cellmates? Kate and Sayid of course. Upon recruiting them into his team, the transport truck taking them into county jail suddenly pulls over to reveal….Ana Lucia! Apparently Hurley bribed her into letting them escape. The set up? Apparently Desmond has something plan at the concert Jack is going to be attending.
So this Sunday brings the SERIES finale of Lost. No more long waits. No more wondering what the fuck is going to happen. It is all going to get reveled Sunday night. What kind of ending are we going to get? An answer all ending? A Sopranos like permanent cliffhanger? A total mind fuck? My vote goes for the mind fuck answer some ending that is going to force Lindelof and Cuse into hiding.
