• It’s Storytime!

Once upon a time, you got lost in my dress (not an innuendo). Yay for fashion storytime:

Priya Dress in Ash, $46 at Lulu.com

I love the elephant, and the cacti, and the palace in the background- where the desert’s evil lord slayer lives. The story: the elephant belongs to the hero of the dress, who is not visible because he has dismounted the elephant, jumped the clay palace fence, sword in hand, and is currently slaying the slayer in the marble palace foyer (also not visible). The location of the print is somewhere between New Mexico and Agrabah?

Well, that’s my crappy interpretation, at least. Also, the triangular fringe is awesome and Westerny.

    Scenery Floral Sun Dress, eBay

This one is totally a cross between Kirby’s Dream Land and my imagination’s version of Faerie. Good times.

Stop Staring! (At My Holiday Dress)

A bunch of holiday parties are coming up. TSC is gonna be at the Yelp one in two weeks. Then there’s Thanksgiving, of course. The Phantom of the Opera is opening at the Orpheum in SF soon … and how can I forget the usual runs of Dickens’ The Christmas Carol and both the San Francisco Ballet’s and Oakland Ballet’s versions of The Nutcracker?

If you’re going to any holiday festivities, which I’m sure you are, I recommend Stop Staring for some semi-affordable, old-school class to bring to your next office party (though it’s understandable if most of us are Bob Crachit status in the pocketbooks):

    Keeping Warm … Kind Of

It doesn’t really get below 50 degrees F here in the Bay Area, so you hardly see people bundling up heavily. And if you’re in a local college town that I will not name, you might even see co-eds in their tanks, basketball shorts and flip-flops. In the rain.

Blame it on confusion. The weather here fluctuates more than most post-ungrad career paths, so you know what that means: layer. The following white-themed knits might not keep you super warm all by themselves, but that’s the beauty of them.

Sciarpone, Scarf & Sweater (yes, it can be both) – Sartoria Vico

    Kate Spade Fall ‘08

Contrary to popular belief, Facebook is not just a place to post last night’s drunken red cup antics, passive-aggressive shots at your frenemies, or interests that make you sound more interesting than you really are; you can also get updated about your favorite designers, like Kate Spade, for instance.

A Shirt That Makes You Follow Your Heart

I’ve been thinking a lot about dreams lately, because I’m pretty much set on following mine. I think everyone deserves to dream if circumstances allow, and they almost always do. Just make sure it’s actually a genuine dream you’re pursuing- not some deep-seated insecurity posturing and rationalizing itself as one. And by insecurity, I mean the usual unhealthy obsessions with riches, esteem, trying to be better than the next guy, etc. I’ve been there, decided it wasn’t fun, left.

Then again, insecurities and unhappiness may very well make the world go round. Without them, dreamers wouldn’t have a reason to dream!

Things I Wish I Could Wear to Work

Oh, that’s right, I don’t have a real job yet, so I can technically wear anything I want! Good for me- if only I had the paycheck to support an ultimate wardrobe playtime. Eric Daman has that privilege, being a Gossip Girls stylist and all. Here are some of my favorite bubbly administrative assistant looks that he put together for Revolve Clothing. The result is super perky and wonderful. If I ever become a librarian, you better believe I’d be shelving Gabriel Garcia Marquez in neon pink tights:

Me doing a poor man’s Eric Daman impression via the wonders of online technology:

Left: Bailey 44 Grey/Black Jetty Jacket. $350. LuvCharlie.com. Right: The Carson Dress in Magenta by BB Dakota from Jack is what the stewardesses of Vogue Magazine’s private jet would wear. $60. Lulus.com.
