People Pay You That Much to Sit Down?

WORDS BY PETITE ANGLAISE

Fall-2009-Collections-Mercedes-Benz-Fashion-Week-In-New-York.jpg

For those connected enough to attend New York Fashion week, be well advised. Front row is now the new red carpet with many celebrities, socialites, and wannabees skipping the cameras of the front entrance to sit calmly and most importantly to be seen, front row. At my first New York Fashion Week 2 years ago, I was honored to even sit down, let alone sit about 4 rows behind Nicole Richie. But alas, some of the more infamous (or famous) personalities feel well…”obligated” to make an appearance, for a cost, of course.

Here is an interesting look at prices and names that may be seen Feb 11-18.

Just Ask The Locals!

Now I gotta move to NY.

Miss Bruno

When I first saw the website for Miss Bruno I immediately though, “This is the epitome of M.I.A.-inspired hipsterwear!” Busy website. Super 8 cameras, big, lenseless glasses. Everywhere. But despite all those main hipster trinkets, Miss Bruno’s clothing is beautiful, creative and thoughtful (and there are no signs of metallic leggings and bold 80’s patterns thrown together just because):

missbruno sprung from the marrow of our lineage, making twists and turns jusqu’ it morphed into the trans-worlds collection you see today. specifically, we are two sisters: brooklynites by way of Ayiti; designers, by way of musik and film; independent, by way of clothing made directly from our collective hands. our designs thrive on our philosophies on life: wholistic, lush, simple. we make things meant for sustainable living and other unassuming revolutions.

For people in wintry parts, they also have a unique “My So-Called Scarf” collection. We don’t need it in California right now. There are record highs, everywhere. In the middle of November.

GQ Photoshops Brett Favre’s Head

Photobucket

So GQ has a slideshow entitled “GQ Upgrades Brett Favre.” They have an introduction where they, as if they’re actually talking to Brett, criticize the quarterback for not being sartorially prepared since he has arrived in New York. And they say they’ll show him how it’s done. One would assume that they actually took Brett in for a photoshoot to dress him in clothes that GQ deemed appropriate, like they usually do with most of the men they feature. Instead, they photoshopped his head on top of well-dressed models, two clicks away from being superimposed. The only reason why I caught it was because Brett Favre looks friggin’ bashful in his pictures. I thought it was because modeling is out of his comfort zone, but I’m sure Mr. Favre has done many a photoshoot.

Could ya’ll not pay him enough to come in?

Anyone glossing over this totally would not have caught this.

Detail Oriented: Tie Bars and Tie Pins

After checking out the detail shots for Rag and Bone’s latest Spring ‘09 collection in New York, I was surprised to see that they have used a detail in their runway pieces that I have personally used in my own outfits in the past: a tie bar without the tie. It does not seem functional, and yet it shows a very keen attention to detail. For my own purposes, I don’t like to button the top button of my shirt without a tie. It’s too nerdy. But I also don’t like my shirt to spread too far apart at the chest/neck area, so I use the tie bar to bring the opposite ends of my shirt together. It adds that extra umph in these outfits.

Brooks Brothers Fall 2008 Ad Campaign “Diary of a Park Bench”

Photobucket

Brooks Brothers has partnered with the Central Park Conservancy in support of their Adopt-A-Bench program. Deciding that they did not want an adopted bench to go to waste, they took advantage of the situation and made a photo op out of it. Imagine what Brooks Brothers would have done if they had adopted some kids, Brangelina style. The photos are in classic black and white and the outfits have some class in them as well. I’ve always been a fan of Brooks Brothers because of the promise of their clothes like the ones shown in the picture. It doesn’t usually translate to what they sell in stores. You would think they were designing their clothes for Quasimodos with the way the clothes fit on my smaller frame.
