Saks Fifth Avenue x Shepard Fairey Spring 2009 Want It! Campaign
It looks like Saks Fifth Avenue has tapped Shepard Fairey and his design collective, Studio Number One, to visualize their Spring 2009 Want It! campaign. It’s basically this season’s Saks Fifth Avenue product with the images that got President Obama elected. Pure advertising genius! Their is nothing that Shepard Fairey can’t sling. The images are on point and the propaganda is especially demanding. It is no longer the friendly “OBEY” suggestion. The campaign posters amusingly bark fashion tips at you including, “EMBRACE PRINTS!”, “DRESS UP THE SNEAKER!”, and “REFORM THE POLO!” And now a few words from our inbox…
The campaign features the season’s hottest trends in propaganda style imagery, reminiscent of the images used in the government owned department stores from 1920’s Soviet Union. In addition to the marketing campaign launching on the 12th, limited edition shopping bags and a tote bag featuring the artwork will be available in the Saks stores. The tote bag will retail for $20 with proceeds going to the HOPE charity – Helping Other People Everywhere, an organization dedicated to bringing important social issues to the forefront of the media by raising awareness through the creative class and developing collaborative projects and funds to help existing educational programs move forward in sustainability and impact.
And this would be the $20 bag mentioned. I suggest that you replace that reusable grocery bag with this bad boy. Yeah I’m talking to you, Alexander. (Note: Alexander uses reusable grocery bags and is not ashamed.)
Thanks to Megan for the tip!
